French press
An immersion brewer where coffee steeps in hot water before a mesh plunger separates the grounds.
Coarse coffee steeps for around four minutes, then you press the metal mesh down to trap the grounds at the bottom. The mesh lets oils through, giving a full-bodied cup.
It is simple and needs no paper filters, though it leaves more sediment than paper methods.
Why it matters for small spaces
A French press is forgiving and cheap, but glass models need careful storage in a busy small kitchen.
